How can I check my pension status online?

Answer By law4u team

Checking the status of your pension is essential to ensure that the contributions made during your employment have been processed correctly and are ready for withdrawal upon retirement. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) offers an online facility to check the status of your pension, particularly the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), which is linked to your EPF account.

How to Check Your Pension Status Online:

Visit the EPFO Member Portal:

The first step in checking your pension status is to visit the official EPFO portal. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Go to the EPFO member portal: EPFO Member Portal
  • Click on the For Employees section.
  • Select the Pensioners option.

Use the UAN to Check the Pension Status:

To check your pension status online, you will need your Universal Account Number (UAN), which is linked to your EPF account. You can check your pension status using the UAN on the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal:

  • Visit the EPFO Member e-Sewa Portal.
  • Log in using your UAN and password. If you haven’t activated your UAN yet, you will need to complete the activation process by visiting the EPFO portal and following the instructions.

Check Pension Status on the EPFO Pensioner Portal:

If you have already retired and want to check the status of your pension claim under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), you can directly access the EPFO Pensioner Portal:

  • Visit the EPFO Pensioners Portal: EPFO Pensioner Portal
  • Enter your Pension Payment Order (PPO) number and other required details to track the status of your pension.

Check Pension Status through EPFO Mobile App:

The EPFO also offers a mobile application called EPFO which allows employees and pensioners to check various details, including pension status.

  • Download the EPFO Mobile App from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  • Open the app and log in using your UAN.
  • You can view details such as your EPF balance, pension status, and other related information.

SMS and Missed Call Services:

You can also check your pension status by using the EPFO’s SMS and missed call services:

  • Missed Call Service: Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number. You will receive an SMS with your EPF balance and pension details.
  • SMS Service: Send an SMS to 7738299899 in the format EPFOHO UAN to receive a message about your EPF and pension status.

Check Pension Claim Status:

If you've filed a claim for your pension and want to track its status, you can do so on the EPFO website:

  • Visit the EPFO Member Portal.
  • Select Track Claim Status under the Online Services menu.
  • Enter your UAN and claim details to check the current status of your pension claim.

Documents Required to Check Pension Status:

To check your pension status online, you will need the following details:

  • UAN (Universal Account Number): This number is unique to you and is provided by your employer and EPFO.
  • Pension Payment Order (PPO) Number: If you are already receiving a pension, you will need this number to track the status of your pension.
  • Member ID (EPF Number): This is provided by your employer and is linked to your EPF account.
  • Date of Birth and Employment Details: These may be required for verification in some cases.

What Information Can You Find About Your Pension Status?

  • Pension Eligibility: Whether you are eligible for a pension under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS).
  • Claim Status: Whether your pension claim has been processed, and if so, the current status of your claim.
  • Pension Amount: The estimated pension you will receive based on your service and contributions.
  • Payment Details: The status of your monthly pension payments (if already approved).

Example:

Mr. Rajesh retired from his job at the age of 60 and was eager to check his pension status. He visited the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal and logged in with his UAN. He found that his pension claim was approved, and the first payment was successfully processed. By accessing the EPFO Pensioner Portal using his Pension Payment Order (PPO) number, Mr. Rajesh confirmed that his pension would be credited to his bank account on the first week of every month.

Conclusion:

Checking your pension status online is a straightforward process through the EPFO portal, mobile app, or SMS services. By regularly monitoring your pension status, you can ensure that your retirement benefits are being processed and credited as expected.
