Yes, an RTI (Right to Information) application can be filed to a government school or university in India. Government schools and universities are public authorities under the RTI Act, 2005. They are funded and managed by the government, so they are legally bound to provide information under Section 2(h) of the RTI Act. You can seek information such as: Admission procedures Fee structure Staff appointments Expenditure and budgets Marks or evaluation-related queries Policies and rules followed by the institution You must address the RTI application to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the concerned school or university and pay the prescribed fee (usually ₹10). Private schools or universities receiving substantial government aid may also fall under the purview of the RTI Act.

Dear Client, Yes any public authority is obligated to provide information under the 2005 Right to Information Act. The term public authority refers to government-funded and government-controlled educational institutions. Inquiries concerning administrative issues, faculty appointments, fund utilization admissions and other topics can be submitted through an RTI. However Section 8 of the RTI Act may exempt staff or student personal information that is not of public interest. I hope this answer helps. In case of future queries, please feel free to contact us. Thank you.

Dear Sir, Yes, in India a RTI application may be put forth to a government school or a university. That’s so as these institutions are classified as public authorities under the RTI Act of 2005. The RTI Act which states that a public authority is any body that comes into being by the Constitution, Parliamentary or State Legislative body, or by government notification. Also included are entities which are run, controlled by the government or which get in to the large extent from the government. As is the case with government schools and universities which fit into this category, they are thus bound by law to supply information to citizens making RTI requests. What does the request for info entail? The RTI act provides for you to request a large range of information which includes:. Academic records: In many cases you may ask for your own answer sheets, marks, or degree verification. This is very much a popular use of RTI in education. Administrative and financial details: Here is what we can do ask for info on the institution’s budget break down, which grants from the government they have received, the structure of their fees, and how they are using their funds. Personnel information: You have access to information on faculty credentials, staff salaries, and attendance records. Also we note that information on third parties is at large subject to privacy issues. Admissions and policies: For information on admission requirements, reservation policies, and the status of your application. How to file the RTI Identify the Public Information Officer (PIO): Each public authority shall have a PIO which you must be addressed to at the time of filing RTI application. Draft your application: Write out a short and to the point application in English, Hindi or the local official language. Also see to it that your questions are precise and not open to many interpretations. Pay the fee: A small fee which is usually of 10 Rupees. We accept Indian Postal Orders (IPO) and Demand Drafts for payment of which we also have online options on the relevant government RTI portal. Submit the application: You may submit your application through our central or state RTI portal or by sending it via registered post. PIO is required by law to respond to your request within 30 days of us receiving your application. I wish that this response helps you out with your queries. Should you have any issues, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you.
