Here is a detailed explanation of their salary and benefits: 1. Salary: As of the 2018 amendment (currently in effect):The Chief Justice of India receives a salary of ₹2,80,000 per month. Other Judges of the Supreme Court receive a salary of ₹2,50,000 per month. 2. Allowances and Benefits: Dearness Allowance (DA) – Linked to inflation and revised periodically. House Rent Allowance (HRA) – If no official residence is provided. Official Residence – Rent-free furnished government accommodation in New Delhi. Domestic Help – Support staff for residence including peons, clerks, etc. Medical Facilities – Free medical treatment and reimbursement under Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). Travel Allowance – Reimbursement of travel expenses for official and personal journeys. Conveyance – Chauffeur-driven official car with fuel and maintenance. Security – Personal and home security as per protocol. Telephone and Internet – Free residential telephone, mobile, and internet services. 3. Pension and Post-Retirement Benefits: After retirement, judges are entitled to a pension:50% of the last drawn salary as a pension (subject to years of service). Other benefits include:Lifetime medical facilities Staff support Office space (in some cases) Travel facilities for themselves and spouse 4. Other Provisions: Judges are barred from practicing law after retirement in Indian courts, though they may be appointed to commissions, tribunals, or as arbitrators. Salaries, gratuity, pension, allowances etc. in respect of Judges of Supreme Court are governed by the Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1958.  An amendment in the Acts is required whenever there is any proposal for revision of salaries/pension gratuity, allowances etc. in respect of Judges of Supreme Court Revised rates of Salary, Allowances and Pension of Supreme Court and High Court Judges w.e.f. 01.01.2016 are as under:- Chief Justice of India: Salary Rs.2,80,000/-p.m. Pension: Rs.16,80,000/- per annum +Dearness Relief Gratuity: Rs.20,00,000/- Allowances of CJI includes: Furnishing allowance: Rs.10,00,000/- HRA: 24% of Basic Salary Sumptuary allowance: Rs.45,000/- per month Judges of Supreme Court Salary: Rs.2,50,000/-p.m. Pension:Rs.15,00,000/- per annum + Dearness Relief Gratuity:Rs.20,00,000/- Allowances of SC Judges includes: Furnishing allowance:Rs.8,00,000/- HRA: 24% of Basic Salary Sumptuary allowance:Rs.34,000/- per month The Salaries, Pension and Allowances of the Supreme Court Judges are charged upon the Consolidated Fund of India, whereas the Salaries and Allowances of the High Court Judges are charged upon the Consolidated Fund of the States and the Pension is charged on the Consolidated Fund of India.
